The Ohikos Nursery features plants that are low-maintenance perennials or cold-hardy easily-reseeding annuals and biennials. Currently, plants are mainly selected for Cold Temperate climates and specifically, hardiness-zones 5-6. Native plants are favored however exotic species are also welcomed when in the right place and when used appropriately. Many of the plants can often be used for ornamental, edible, medicinal, or other functional purposes within plant communities. The more functions that a plant has, the more attractive they are within the ecosystem. In addition to edible, medicinal, and aesthetic uses, here are some other uses that these plants may be useful for: Nitrogen Fixation, Dynamic Nutrient Accumulation, Mulch, Fodder for Livestock, Insect Deterrence or Attraction, Pollination, Wind Breaks & Hedges, and Fuel or Fiber.

As an average “rule of thumb”, plants will generally grow best in full to partial sun, and in well drained fertile soils.
