Yarrow – Achillea millefolium

Yarrow – Achillea millefolium

Perennial to zone 2. Grows to about 2-3 feet. Ornamental with edible young leaves and beautiful flowers of varying colors. Aromatic tea can be made from the somewhat bitter flowers and leaves. The leaves can also be used as a hops substitute in beer. The plant can be used as a groundcover and can compete with most grasses. Good companion plant for repelling ants, flies, and beetles and accumulating nutrients for surrounding plants. Soak leaves in water for a week or two and make fertilizer (similar to nettle, comfrey, dandelion, and other dynamic nutrient accumulator plants).
