Onion, Egyptian Walking - Allium cepa proliferum

Onion, Egyptian Walking – Allium cepa proliferum

Perennial from zone 4-10. Grows up to 4 feet tall. Easy to grow and will compete with most plants. Produces edible bulbs, young edible bulblets that can be pickled, and edible hollow stocks that are like giant chives. These topsetting onions are also called “Tree Onions”, but they will seemingly “walk” outwards as they produce bulblets on the top of their stock, which then becomes top-heavy and bends back towards the ground, thus re-rooting itself and repeating this cycle the following year. A good onion to be used in anti-bacterial, insect, and anti-fungal foliar sprays for fruit trees, or companion planted within proximity.
